Fly Up Close |
I was waiting for some water birds to come out into view when suddenly this fly landed next to me. I was amazed by its colors sparkling in the sunlight - the red eyes, and greenish-blue body. So I decided to put on my close-up lens adapter and take some macro photos. Lucky for me, the fly was patient and fearless enough to let me get some good ones. I must admit to never thinking flies could be that beautiful from up close.
What I like about this photo? The colors are awesome, and the pose and composition are pretty good. I closed my aperture as much as I could to get some desperately needed depth of field (due to the really close shooting distance), so the eyes and most of the body are in good focus.
What would I want to improve? More depth of field is necessary. The correct thing to do would have been to bring out the tripod, and stack several photos with different focus points. But then the fly would probably have flown away already, especially since my tripod was back at home. I should have been more prepared, I suppose.
