Palestine Sunbird in Action |
The beautiful Palestine Sunbird, a tiny bird that thrives in Israel, can be found by listening - it makes a high pitched sound. It's very quick and jumpy, so you have to be on your toes if you actually want to catch it in the frame. This male (males have these beautiful colors, the females are mostly grey) was sipping from the colored flowers, making for a wonderful color combination between the incredible body colors, the background, and the flowers.
What do I like about this photo? The pose is interesting and unorthodox. The colors are wonderful - from the blue-green body, to the green-brown background, and the purple flowers. I used an open aperture to have the bird in focus and the background blurred out, so the bird will jump out to the eye.
What would I like to improve? The background is somewhat noisy. Potentially a more open aperture (which, unfortunately, my equipment doesn't allow) would blur it out more, but note that the tail of the bird is already out of focus, so that might have not been a good idea. The real solution might have been to wait for the bird to pose on a better spot, but then it would probably not have duplicated this specific pose.
