Reflections... |
On the right we have a Ruff - a medium sized bird that likes marshes best. On the left a Stilt, a bit larger in the body but with legs that never end (behind we can see another Ruff). Both the main subjects are busy looking for food, and their are reflections show beautifully in the water. I'm always looking to capture combinations of animals in a frame - it's not very common and makes for a more interesting photo.
What do I like about this photo? The composition is wonderful. Nature is the best artist, you know. The reflections are beautiful. I used an open aperture (f/6.3 - the most open my lens supports at this focal distance) to have the subjects in focus and the rest blurred out, so the subjects stand out very nicely.
What would I want to improve? A lower angle of view would have made for a more dramatic photo. Quieter water would have made for even more beautiful reflections. I would also have preferred for the Ruff in the back to not be there at all - a photo with just the two subjects would have been distinctly cleaner.
