| Gull Walking on Water |
On a recent cloudy day I was watching the Gulls fish for their food on one of the lakes nearly. Lighting was an issue, but some photos still turned out pretty nice. Like this one - it appears like this Gull is actually walking on the water!
What do I like about this photo? The pose is beautiful: the wings are fully extended, the Gull is in mid-step, with the beak slightly open, and you can see the disturbance in the water where his legs are touching it. The shallow depth of field (I used an open aperture) makes all details visible on the Gull, but everything else blurred out. And there are lots of details - you can zoom in on the Gull to observe. The low angle of view - the Gull is almost at eye level - makes for a dramatic effect.
What would I want to improve? Better lighting was needed. Sunlight would have made this photo more alive and the colors more interesting. An even lower angle of view would have improved this photo as well, creating for an even larger dramatic effect.
