Kestrel in the Fields |
I was driving by the fields the other day, and suddenly noticed this male Common Kestrel standing on one of the poles. The entire atmosphere, with the stranded poles, the buildings in the background, and the lone Kestrel felt like an apocalyptic movie. So naturally I just had to take the photo!
What do I like about this photo? Obviously, the atmosphere. The stark contrast between the bird and dead bushes, and the man-made poles and buildings. The shallow depth of field (I used an open aperture of f/6.3, the most open my lens supports at a focal length of 400mm) makes just the bird and a few bushes in focus, and the rest blurred out.
What would I want to improve? The lighting was far from optimal, so the colors are a bit more muted than I'd like. They do fit well with the apocalyptic atmosphere, I suppose. Better lighting would have improved the amount of details as well, I believe.
