Shiny Hairy Caterpillar |
Todays photo is from the tiny world - a macro photo! I encountered these brown, hairy caterpillars feasting on the leaves near the ground, and couldn't help but take close-up photo of one. You can see the sunlight shining through the hair, making it shine, and the actual feeding process as its happening. I wonder what this caterpillar will grow up to be?
What do I like about this photo? The lighting is good - with the sunlight coming from behind so the hair lights up (as well as the leaves). There's a good amount of detail on the head and close section of the caterpillar.
What would I want to improve? The depth of field is a bit too shallow. I used my lens at the closest aperture supported (f/22), but that's not enough at such short distances. Maybe I should have used focus stacking, but I don't think the caterpillar was staying in place enough for that method to work.
