White-Tailed Eagle |
The most impressive bird in the Israel skies, I believe. On wingspan, the largest Eagle in the world. A true raptor - catching and eating fish, birds, and small mammals. In recent years several have been released back to the wild in Israel, and are a sight to behold. I did not have the fortune of seeing a free one, only this female which is kept in the Carmel Hai-Bar reserve near Haifa. Even behind bars, the power of this raptor shines through. Just look at those eyes... and claws...
What do I like about this photo? There's a huge amount of details. The subject is amazing and the pose and look intimidating. I used an open aperture (f/6.3 - the most open my lens supports at the focal length of 400mm that I used) to "break through" the fence in front of the bird, blurring it out enough that it's invisible.
What would I want to improve? The cage is clearly visible in the back. Would have loved to have encountered this amazing raptor in the wild...
