Magnificent Takeoff |
This is a European Bee-Eater, a split second after taking off from a branch. Arguably the most beautiful bird in the Israeli skies, this capable bird catches insects in flight, which is just awesome to see. We can see the concentrated look as he spotted some prey nearby - a few seconds later he came back with a moth in his beak!
What do I like about this photo? The beautiful subject, of course, in a dynamic, beautiful pose. The wings are extended, and the tail is fully fanned-out. The incredible colors are all visible! I used a fast shutter speed to freeze the action, so even though the wings are moving at an incredible speed, the Bee-Eater is sharp.
What would I want to improve? The tip of the left wing is out of focus - I should have used a more closed aperture to get a larger depth of field. The background is a bit boring, as well.
