Soft-Shell Turtle |
I often go to where these beautiful large turtles hang out. Trouble is, they're usually totally immersed in the water, with only their noses showing, which doesn't make for a great photo. The other day I had the fortune of one of them actually giving a much more interesting show for me. Here's the result.
What do I like about this photo? The interesting (and rare) subject finally showing, with good amount of detail. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the turtle is sharp but the water becomes blurred. This makes the turtle really stand out, even though it's colors are subdued.
What would I want to improve? I would have wanted to have a lower angle of view, which would have made the photo more dramatic. Having the turtle even more out of the water would have been huge, as well.
