Hyena with Cubs |
We were fortunate to meet Hyenas several times during our Kruger trip, and were charmed by how they take care of their cubs. This female, for example, is baby-sitting some cubs while the other adults are gone for some hunting. Note the two really tiny cubs, that are still of dark color, and the larger one that has already developed the pattern on his fur.
What do I like about this photo? It's nature at its best, showing how the next generation is being grown. The look on the faces is priceless. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, ensuring the Hyenas are in focus but the background blurred. The amount of detail is very good, as well.
What would I want to improve? A lower angle of view would have been preferable, making for a more dramatic photo.
