One our last day in Kruger National Park we were lucky to meet a group of Rhinos patrolling the road. This one gave me an impressive frontal pose, complete with the cleaning bird at the top. Quite intimidating, actually...
What do i like about this photo? The rare animal is always a pleasure to meet. The pose is incredible - I couldn't have staged a better one if I wanted to. The size of the Rhino and its power can be felt so effectively. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the rhino is sharp but the background is blurred. Combined with the color contrast this makes the Rhino really stand out. The bird on top adds a little interest as well.
What would I want to improve? I would get rid of the asphalt, of course... That being said, the fact that the Rhino is standing on a road and not in the bushes makes it completely visible, to the tips of the legs.
