| Monarch Butterfly on a Flower |
One of the more impressive Butterflies in Israel is the Monarch. A big, colorful, and interesting Butterfly. Notice the dotted pattern on its body. Another example of the beautiful details that are hard to observe with the naked eye, and that a good camera can make apparent.
What do I like about this photo? The beautiful colors, with striking contrast between the Butterfly, the flower, and the background. The composition, using the rule of thirds to full advantage. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the Butterfly and the flower are in focus, but the background is blurred out. The lighting is somewhat from the back, making the wings shine a little.
What would I want to improve? More back-lighting, to create a shining halo around the butterfly. A more interesting angle for the Butterfly would also help.
