The king of the lakes, the Osprey, an impressive bird of prey that catches fish with its strong legs while diving into the water. This one let me get real close, to get a great amount of details. The background consists of water, with the sun reflecting off the surface for added interest.
What do I like about this photo? The amount of details - you can see individual strands on the feathers if you zoom in! The pose is dynamic and intimidating. The background is interesting, with perfect location of the reflecting light right at the beak. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the Osprey is in focus but the background is blurred out. This creates good separation and makes the Osprey really stand out.
What would I want to improve? Eye contact would have been huge, obviously...
