The Bee-Eater and the Wasp |
Just a reminder that this photo is going to be displayed in an exhibition at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis, USA. Opening night is August 12.
They're called Bee-Eaters, and they would definitely eat the occasional bee, but they're actually not picky and would pluck any insect of the right size from the sky. Like this Wasp, for example. In this photo we see the Bee-Eater throwing the Wasp into the air to catch it in a more favorable position. They keep doing that, then break the sting expertly on a branch, and then swallow it whole. Amazing...
