| The Bee-Eater and the Wasp |
Happy to report that one of my favorite photos from this season has been chosen to be displayed at The Photography Show in Birmingham, UK. Opening night is September 17. I'm happy! :)
They're called Bee-Eaters, and they would definitely eat the occasional bee, but they're actually not picky and would pluck any insect of the right size from the sky. Like this Wasp, for example. In this photo we see the Bee-Eater throwing the Wasp into the air to catch it in a more favorable position. They keep doing that, then break the sting expertly on a branch, and then swallow it whole. Amazing...
